Long-Time Smokers Should Get Cancer Scans

Long-time smokers should get annual CT scans to screen for early stages of lung cancer – even if they don’t have symptoms, according to a draft recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Experts say the benefits appear to outweigh harms of the low-dose radiation. The recommendations are met with mixed reviews from doctors — including some who think the recommendations are far too broad.
