Mountain Lion Habitat Fragmentation Study

Video from a remote camera operated by the UC Santa Cruz Puma Project shows a male mountain lion “16M” exhibiting “scraping” behavior in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Loch Lomond Reservoir in 2011. Lions scrape leaves or duff into a pile to mark territory. The GPS collar, placed by UCSC researchers, transmits the lion’s travels, and records the extent of his territory.
