Google Knows What It ‘Likes’, Buys It

Google announced that it has purchased Like.com, which offers a visual search engine for retail products.

The acquisition comes years after rumors emerged that Google was interested in the company, which was initially known as Riya when the company was founded in 2004.

Like.com CEO and co-founder Munjal Shah said on the company’s home page about the deal Friday:  “We see joining Google as a way to supersize our vision and supercharge our passion.”

According to Like.com, the company provides a visual search engine focused on shoes, clothes, jewelry and decor.

“We’ve developed technology that lets us understand visually what terms like ‘red high-heeled pumps’ and ‘floral patterned sleeveless dress’ mean and created algorithms to understand whether those pumps complement or clash with that dress,” the company’s description said.

Like.com also owns Covet.com, which is described as an online personal shopper for fashion products, and virtual fashion studio Couturious.com.

Shah did not say provide ay specifics of the financial details in his notes, although according to TechCrunch, it’s somewhere around $100 million.
