HIV—which stands for human immunodeficiency virus—is thought to affect around 35 million people worldwide, and is the virus that cause AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
What causes it?
HIV is thought to have originated in Chimpanzees and was originally transmitted to humans who ate them. It is passed through bodily fluids such as blood and semen.
