ARLINGTON, Va., April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the national Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) have released HCAHPS scores that cover patient satisfaction from an overall hospital rating to nine other dimensions of a patient’s hospital experience. Virginia Hospital Center scored above the state and national average in categories such as the overall rating of the hospital, the likelihood that a patient would recommend the hospital, and cleanliness which ties directly to stopping infection before it starts.
“We are very proud of the high scores Virginia Hospital Center received in survey areas such as the overall rating and the likelihood to recommend,” said Jim Cole, President and CEO of Virginia Hospital Center. “Our Hospital views HCAHPS as a viable benchmarking tool, and we are always looking for ways to improve our services so that our patients are served with the highest quality of compassionate care the community so deserves.”
HCAHPS scores assisted Virginia Hospital Center in identifying our strengths and where we have opportunity to improve. The Hospital will continue to provide change agents and internal education to our nurses and physicians on items such as communication and timely response to the needs of our patients. Initiatives supporting this change include the creation of new patient discharge materials, nursing education in-services on communication and response, and the upcoming development of a Patient Advisory Board.
Virginia Hospital Center appreciates and supports CMS and HQA for creating a set of clear, standardized quality and satisfaction measures. Our top priority is being proactive in providing the highest quality of care to all patients and with the transparency of our healthcare system we can better serve and satisfy our community.
